WTF is GMV?

It’s the metric to gauge sales on social.

(and your competitors aren’t measuring it properly).

Firstly: it stands for Gross Merchandise Value.

It’s the total value of goods that are sold over a specific period of time.

In the past, it was used to calculate commercial performance over a long duration – like a financial quarter or a year.

Now it’s used to calculate the success of flash sales, TikTok LIVE, and product drops.

GMV can be measured by the day. Hour. Or minute.

And some of the results are staggering.

UK beauty brand P. Louise broke records in the summer.

It sold TWO products PER SECOND during its TikTok LIVE.

£1.6 million in 24 hours. 🤯

(We think TikTok juiced the algorithm a little to turn this into a case study. But you can’t argue with the figures.)

Marketers are used to measuring reach as their main KPI.

Want to edge the competition?

Keep GMV top of mind.
